Ideal for intermediate piano players, this mellow and delicate neoclassical piece, “Last Legend (To Kanali),” is reminiscent of fantasy video game soundtracks and music boxes. Its melancholic and dreamy mood will evoke feelings of mystery and hope.

Piano teachers will find this a gorgeous addition to piano recital repertoire and students will find personal enjoyment from learning this piece.

The Story Behind the Piece:

As a teenager in 2001, I had an idea to write an adventure story. I had character designs, maps, the beginning of a novel, and a few fragments of what I hoped would be a soundtrack (see The Legendary Princess which is a medley of those works and Fantasie which an orchestral mashup of those themes).

This is a new piece that I wrote in 2023 while thinking about that story.

Inspired by Nobuo Uematsu, this piece emulates the opening piano piece of a Japanese video game, Final Fantasy X (Last Legend=Final Fantasy. Get it?), which is my favorite RPG video game. I hope you enjoy this tribute.
